the bible tells us to lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.

this is true wealth.

so many people have departed from the christian faith because of love for money, whether it be paper money, gold and silver, real estate, et cetera.

i had to laugh at today's watchtower, when it spoke of "judge barak".. it's this sort of thing that tells you that their "scholarship" is non-existent.

the record in judges clearly states that 'deborah was judging israel' - oh, and it repeats the point because 'israel came to her to be judged'.

..... brave barak told her he wasn't going into battle unless she went with him.. no judge deborah.

Have you wondered "WHERE else could I go"?

the question has an inbuilt fatal flaw.

it forces only one answer nowhere.. this question is also based on a false premise that we can be right with god if we find and follow the correct rules, doctrines, moral code and knowledge.

this is in direct opposition to what paul teaches over and over on imputed righteousness (justification, being counted as righteous, as a free gift that cannot be earned, deserved or paid for).

My Mom said this the other day, and yes she misquoted by saying where instead of whom (common for witlesses). We were talking about the seeming corruption in our conned-green-nation and she was feeling discouraged. She was trying to tell me that we need to stop being so negative about the cong because that will only lead to more discouragement and "we all know where that leads." She then went on about jayhoovers borganization being run by imperfect men so we need to have understanding, besides "where else would we go?”

Really? What a lame excuse for doubting dubs to reaffirm there failing devotion to mother; if that's the only thing keeping you (not knowing where to go next), then why are you there? If humanity said, "I don't know where else to go so I'll just sit tight" we'd never advance, EVER, and we’d still be in the dark ages.

Good point; I look at most of the sisters and think, "what the hell? Was the thrift store out of clothes made after 1965? Is your washer and iron broken; and I can see you have a dirty floor, but do you not own a dresser, closet or hangers? Is your hairdresser older than 5? Did your 80-year-old retired Avon lady grandma give you tips on how to "update" your look? And just because you can get it cheap in a box from Wal-Mart doesn't mean your hair should be THAT color."

I don't see how being clean, presentable and appropriately dressed for your the setting can be undignified, but I do see how making yourself stick out like a sore thumb can.

i think the society is cautious enough (legal, legal) to avoid saying or doing anything too radical, even in the "kool-aid" watchtower.. but individual witnesses are another story!.

If Jesus did return in 1914, wouldnt he have.........?

if jesus returned in 1914, i can understand he would be invisible to the rest of mankind so he can seperate the wheat from the chaff from thier genuine behaviour, but why is he also invisible to the congregation he is head of?.

he appeared to the original disciples before he went to heaven, now he has "returned", why hasnt he appeared to his faithfull and discreet slave?.

if he is directing his church on earth, shouldnt he at least appear to the president to give him some direction and to ensure "his" chosen congregation doesnt make any silly mistakes that would hamper the work?.

Question #9 of this week's "oral review" of DVD "Faith In Action"...

this week, the service meeting will have an oral review of the dvd faith in action which was distributed in the 2010 district assembly worldwide... as many of you probably know, the intent of this dvd is to present a "white-washed" version of the history of the watchtower by omitting all the scandals and cover-ups.... i no longer go to meetings, but i would have loved to raise my hand and answer question #9 which reads: "what did the bible students expect would happen in 1914?".

my response would have been the following:.

even though the geoffrey jackson admits that the bible students expected a "heavenly reward", the dvd avoids mentioning that russell categorically predicted armageddon would come in october of 1914. what's even worse is the fact that the narrator lied on two occasions by saying that the bible students expected or reasoned that jesus would take the throne in 1914. this is completely false.

a friendly group of young people came in the drive yesterday.

they all got out with smiles and said that they were looking to put canned food into the "food bank," i assumed for people who need to eat.

i wasn't sure what my wife could part with from the pantry but surely we could gather something for somebody who has much less!

@AK: Kudos! There is a big meth problem where I live so I usually don't give money, but when I can I'll go to the store and give them a bag of groceries.

And no I don't feel guilty because I didn't take the money I spent and waste in the connned-tribution box at the king-dumb-hell; in fact I feel happy that I may have actually helped someone.

I find it disgusting how witlesses feel they are the only one's doing good; ya know unlike those other wicked charities who feed the starving with real food, clothe the poor with actual clothing, house the homeless with existent lodging and really try to help people in a tangible way.

Hypocrites! Must be nice to tuck yourself in at night, thinking your “saving” people, when you’re not helping at all.

what if a powerful government were to hatch a plot to exterminate jehovah's witnesses as an organization?.

they ask this question at the bottom of page 23 of the july wt, and i thought the wording was kind of strange.

the target is not jws "the people" (as in nazi germany) but the org alone.

To that question I say, "so what if they hatch a plot, unless they act on it it's nothing; and besides isn't jayhoover supposed to be able to protect his people and not let them be exterminated?" That is unless the borg feels jayhoover can no longer protect their/his organization! UH-OH
